Nightline is a confidential phone line that’s run by students to help their peers when they need mental health support. Whether it’s academic stress during exams, loneliness in those first few weeks when young people are away from home or just someone to talk to at 3am, the Nightline volunteers are there to listen – without prejudice or judgement.
However, after being set up in 1970, earlier this year the national Nightline Association was forced to close its operations – cutting off much of the funding to the University of Nottingham service. This means that now, more than ever, your donations are vital to help Nightline provide support when students need it most.
Nightline is vitally important to our students; in the previous academic year they proved this by:
· Answering 1,490 calls
· Responding to 640 instant messages
· Giving 2,417 hours of listening support

“Donations fund our training, awareness campaigns, and resources — all the things we need to make sure students know we’re here when they need someone to talk to,” said Liza Ravindra, Service Coordinator for Nottingham Nightline. “Beyond the practical side, it means a lot to know that alumni believe in the importance of listening and want to make sure this support continues for future students.
“Your support means everything to us, because Nightline is often the place students turn to when they feel they have nowhere else to go. Your gift could be the reason a student makes it through a difficult night, knowing that someone is there to listen without judgment.
“Every donation helps us keep our lines open, train volunteers, and raise awareness so that students know they don’t have to struggle alone.”
