The first Nottingham students donned the Green and Gold more than 100 years ago and since then we have a proud history of national and international sporting success. In 2024 we were named Sports University of the Year by The Times and we attract some of the best and brightest sporting talent from across the globe.
Joining a sports club at Nottingham is more than just about physical fitness though; it's an investment in mental health and wellbeing. Engaging in sports activities - whether as part of a team or exercising in the world-class facilities - can provide a much-needed outlet for stress, a boost for self-esteem, and it can help foster a sense of belonging.
That is why we created the Opportunities Fund, to ensure those who need it most don't miss out on the potential to achieve sporting excellence.
The Opportunities Fund was created by the SU and UoN Sport to help students take part in more sports activities and to help meet the costs of getting involved in sport. It’s intended to allow individuals from a range of backgrounds to access activities on campus, both in terms of the cost of memberships and the ongoing costs of full participation in student activities, including equipment, trips, and other events.
If a person is eligible, the Opportunities Fund will partially cover them for the cost of participation in any student group activity on campus. Those eligible include:
During the course of the academic year, a student can claim up to £200 over one, or multiple applications.
By supporting our university's Opportunities Fund, you can help a student feel like they're part of the Nottingham community and give them a sense of belonging, along with helping to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
For every £200 raised during the Giving Day, we will be able support a student for the entire academic year. You will help unlock sporting success for students who may otherwise miss out on becoming a part of the Green and Gold.
