Scholarships for disadvantaged students

You can help a student like Danny say yes to their place at Nottingham

A place at university can transform a young person’s world. But too many bright students from disadvantaged backgrounds find barriers are in their way. We believe that talented students should not miss out on a place at Nottingham because of where they come from or how much money they have. A scholarship could be the difference between lost potential and a future doctor, teacher or scientist.

Danny, an adult nursing student has been a young carer since the age of 12 receives a scholarship which allows him to continue caring for his Dad whilst throwing himself into his studies.

"Coming to Nottingham has been a life-changing experience, and without the scholarship I receive, none of it would have been possible. The scholarship has allowed me to fully immerse myself in my studies and chase my dream of becoming a clinical nurse specialist in brain injury rehabilitation.

"It’s also given me the freedom to get involved in so many activities outside the classroom, from organising a creative writing group for young carers to learning British Sign Language, all while continuing to care for my Dad and give back to my community."

– Danny Donnelly, adult nursing student
